1. Write one to five sad, happy, difficult, disciplined, remarkable poem(s) about your addiction. Emotion is key. Make us laugh. Make us cry. Make our hearts ache with understanding. Most importantly, be truthful! Has your addiction ruined your life? Has it adversely affected the lives of those around you? Has your struggle been with or without shame, grief, hopelessness or have you found an answer? We want to know how you feel or felt at the time. Your poem(s) should come from the heart. Previously published work is acceptable. Please include first publication for proper credit.
2. Pay the Reading Fee: $3 via paypal. The link is provided in the right sidebar. This fee is mandatory whether you submit one poem or five. Why not send the limit? Believe it or not, the piece you decide not to include might be the exact poem we’re looking for.
This fee will aid in the production of the anthology, printing costs, promotion and paying for additional readers.
Important: Be sure to include your name (real name and/or pseudonym) in order to be credited for payment!
3. Once you’ve paid the fee send your work to: littlelarkpress@gmail.com This address is available as well in the right sidebar.
-No attachments please! All work MUST be copied and pasted or typed directly into the body of your email.
-Include a short (100 words or less) bio.
-Include your age! We feel this is a necessary addition. Addiction is ageless. That is a point we want to get across.
-Introduce yourself a little! If you prefer to remain anonymous, you have every right to do so, but you must choose a pseudonym in the event your work is
accepted.
-Work submitted without fee or by attachment will be discarded unread.
General Information:
There is no compensation for accepted work. Our goal here at Little Lark Press is to impress upon the community, the State and the world as a whole that addiction does not affect the weak and the poor alone. It doesn’t seek out those who are under-educated nor them that are dumb or colored or indifferent. Addiction can strike any person at any level without regard. Your words are an impetus toward change, toward knowledge and a pathway to understanding.
Authors whose work we publish will receive a significant discount on the anthology, projected for an early to mid 2012 release via the Little Lark Press imprint.
It is with great anticipation we at Little Lark Press hold deep in our hearts for the chance to receive your poems!
All authors will be notified whether or not their work is accepted within 3 weeks of the deadline.
Deadline for submissions: December 31, 2011 at midnight Mountain standard time.

A Facebook friend suggested I check out your website re: the anthology of addiction, but I don’t SEE any website. Am I missing something? And if this anthology actually gets published and becomes a best seller ( I think it has the potential to do just that) do the authors of the poems get paid?
Hi Edie.
This is the site. You found the right place. It’s strictly for information, guidelines, etc. The call for submissions just launched, so as time goes on and the anthology begins to build things will be added.
No, there is no monetary compensation for the authors. Their only compensation is to have their work included in the book. Most small presses operate this way. Not all, but most. It is through my own pocket the anthology will be created, cataloged, printed and promoted through distribution channels and into bookstores.
If my work is chosen to be included in the anthology, will my name be placed with it, say, under the title of my poem??
There is nothing stating that the author will receive recognition inside of the book. I would appreciate it if you could post in response a rough set-up of how my poem would look. Such as,
Title
My Name
Poem Body
Or however you anticipate it to look. And where would the bio be placed in regards to the layout of the book.
Absolutely, your name will be included along with your poem or poems. Every author will receive full credit for their work.
I can’t answer yet exactly how each page will appear until the deadline for submissions and the layout begins, but it will be very similar to most anthologies with the authors name either below the title or heading up the page(s).
Your name and poem titles will also be included in the Table of Contents as well as your name and bio in the Author’s Bio’s section at the end of the book.
You own and will continue to own full copyright of your own work indefinitely. I will simply acquire First Serial Rights, which means, my anthology under the imprint of Little Lark Press will be understood as its first publisher. After that you can do whatever you choose with your work, republish it in another journal/magazine/anthology or even include it in your own collection of poetry.
This anthology is literally about the writers, their personal experiences/their struggles/their hopes and possible recoveries.
Every prospective writer has the freedom to use their real name or a pseudonym. Little Lark Press and myself will respect all privacy.
Are you interested only in work from people who live with addiction themselves, or will you consider work by loved ones of those who are/were addicted?
Hello Molly.
We are definitely interested in work by loved ones. After all, they are also affected by addiction.
